Founded in 2024, SFOA grew out of more than a decade of student-led outdoor programs at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno, including the RHS Outdoor Club and RHS Bass Fishing Club. What began as after-school clubs has evolved into a nonprofit organization committed to removing barriers such as transportation, cost, and lack of exposure that prevent many young people from experiencing California’s parks, waterways, and natural spaces.
Our mission is to use California’s public lands as platforms for learning, leadership, and personal growth. Through camping trips, outdoor skills training, community service, and stewardship projects, we help students build confidence, responsibility, and a lifelong connection to nature.
